A Little Bit About Us
I have always been in awe of the beauty of handcrafted wood objects. The elegance of wood can be found in any form: architecture, sculptures, bowls, urns. For years, I’ve had wood pieces scattered around my home.
I love how easy it is to use natural wood as home décor and my soul finds it peaceful to have Mother Nature close by. Somehow it eases the abrasiveness of the concrete world where I work and shop.
I am fortunate to live in an area where large tracts of land lie untouched by human hand and where nature has free reign to grow trees tall and fell them by wind or lightening. Some fall to the ground to be consumed by insects, tiny artists that create river beds and mountains on a miniscule scale.
Others stand almost upright as they shed their leaves, their limbs and then their bark, leaving behind shining timber, cured to a steely strength. I love and collect both to create art for you.
I consider my hunts for wood to be missions. My skin tingles, my mind is alert with an awareness of my abilities and limitations. My companion and partner handles the practical side of things, watching for snakes, scorpions and such.
But his eyes light up when we find something on the ground that isn’t perfect and we play the “guess what it is” game. Our imaginations run rampant while we turn the piece over and discover different aspects of the wood. This is where the art begins.
And that’s what I love about Woodland Sculptures and Living Logs. These pieces can be whatever your life and your experiences say they are: abstract art in three dimensions, the fourth dimension being your own vision.
